Almaguin Highlands is known for some really great lakes and sand beaches. Enjoy family fun with several public and private beaches within the area. Sand Lake near Kearney is a very popular destination for family getaways. Plan a family getaway picnic overlooking the Magnetawan River and Dam at the Stan Darling Village Park in Burks Falls. In the town of Emsdale you and your family can enjoy a great Ontario natural attraction, Brooks Falls. Brooks Falls Park is a great place to have a picnic, take pictures or just relax and take in the beautiful surroundings. Doe Lake in Katrine has an excellent public beach and picnic area where the kids can enjoy a familly fun day.

Muskoka Heritage Place in Huntsville near the Almaguin Highlands is a great place to spend the day during your family holiday. Screaming Heads in Burks Falls is another great place for a family getaway. Have a family fun day at Santa's Village in Bracebridge. Scenic Ice Caves near Algonquin Park in the Almaguin Highlands Take a trip from Sand Lake in Kearney towards Algonquin Park on the OFSC snowmobile Trail. The first trail to take is AL307 towards the D trail. Take the D trail for a short distance then turn at the AL301 trail towards the Scenic Ice Caves. The total distance to Kearney Ice Caves is 18km one way from Sand Lake, Ontario. During the summer it is a waterfall but during the winter you see beautiful Ice Caves. The kids like to go behind the frozen waterfall and have lots of fun. The OFSC sometimes hosts their annual barbecue there in March for the snowmobilers to enjoy.
