Get out and enjoy a Cross-country Ski Vacation in the Almaguin Highlands north of Muskoka Ontario Canada.
Cross-country skiing in the north has become a very popular sport for locals and tourists. Snow conditions in this area are always fantastic. We have short trails from 1km to full days. In the Mattawa area you can enjoy skiing at Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park. Loxton Beaver Trail originally built and maintained for winter use as a ski trail is now also opened for the summer as a hiking trail. This trail will take you past Loxton and Beaver Lake, both of which are visible from the trail. Moose Mountain Trail offers the hiker a spectacular view of neighbouring Loxton Lake from the top of what is locally known as Moose Mountain. Tower Trail wanders through a majestic hardwood forest and offers a breathtaking lookout over the Almaguin Highlands. You can enjoy a 1km hike eventually linking with Tower Trail or a 2km hike on the Muskoka Trail that follows along part of the original Muskoka Road in Machar Township. Dam Trail, which is around 2km in the Village of Magnetawan. Follow the Dam Trail signs around the island and take in vistas of waterfalls, granite outcroppings, the old lighthouse on scenic Lake Cecebe, and Centennial Park. Ahmic Lake Golf Club Trails is a 5km loop skirting the Magnetawan River to Braodmeadow Wildlife Area. Old Green House Trail is a 5km loop just past Ahmic Harbour. Return to a small museum, pasta house and licensed lounge in a century home to complete your outing. Woodland Trail is a 2km loop east of the Magnetawan River. This trail is excellent for cross-country skiing and hiking. The Park-to-Park Trail and the Seguin Trail is also used for cross-country skiing in the Almaguin Highlands.
